Thyroid Optimization
What is Thyroid Optimization?
Thyroid optimization is about ensuring your thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) are balanced for your health and well-being. The goal is to have your thyroid hormone levels in the best possible range, not just within the “normal” lab range, to improve energy, metabolism, and overall health.
Symptoms of low thyroid levels include fatigue, weight gain, cold sensitivity, dry skin and hair, constipation, depression, high cholesterol, irregular heart rate, menstrual irregularities.
How to optimize thyroid levels?
It’s important to get the right diagnosis. Your doctor will perform blood tests, including TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), Free T4, and Free T3, to check how well your thyroid is functioning.
Eat a balanced diet: Foods rich in iodine, selenium, and zinc can support thyroid health. Limit goitrogenic foods (e.g., soy, cruciferous vegetables) if you have thyroid issues.
Exercise regularly: This helps regulate hormone levels and supports metabolism.
Manage stress: Chronic stress can affect thyroid function, so try techniques like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises to keep stress in check.
Sleep well: Getting enough rest is key to overall thyroid health.
Medication Therapy
Levothyroxine (T4) is most commonly used to replace thyroid hormone if your thyroid is underactive.
Liothyronine (T3) may be added if your body has trouble converting T4 to T3, or a combination of T4 and T3 may be used.
Your provider will adjust the dose based on your lab results and symptoms to find the best balance.

Thyroid optimization is a personal journey. By working closely with your healthcare provider, you can find the right balance for your thyroid health and overall well-being.
